Acer has been really a strong competitor as a high-street name in Europe, offering range or quality units from existing and latest model like the new Acer Aspire Ethos 8943G. This flagship high-end media center merges technology with stunning modern design quality, cutting-edge performance, and high-def compatibility, making the model ideal for anyone in the family. This model is Blue-Ray equipped with powerhouse built to give what you pay for. Design of the model looks similar with Sony’s VAIO VPC- F12MOE/B and Toshiba’s Qosmio X500-128 has huge 18.4 in screen. With every available feature of most high-end laptops, this unit is by far one of the best-equipped units you can buy to date.

Standard retail price of this unit is at £2000. Pretty expensive, and its price is also the main reason why I expected more from this model.

Like many high-end and expensive models, this model has strong and noticeable weak points too. This model even fell short of my expectations, making its high price a bitter pill to swallow. The Acer Aspire Ethos 8943G offers an impressive battery life as it can run up to a maximum of 211 minutes of continued use, allowing you to carry it around and use the unit anytime and anywhere you like without looking for outlets to plug it into for power supply.

The base of the chassis of the model stays cool too, allowing you to use this laptop in your lap for hours.

The design of Acer Aspire Ethos 8943G is excellent. Built with both brushed-metal lids, palm rest and black plastic interior, it offers a nice design appeal as the face of this model is really stunning. The touchpad comes with a glossy and piano black color that enables it to give off a sophisticated and high-end look to it. Also, while it is fast to attract fingerprints, its lacquered finish eliminates any appearance of smudges and allows you to wipe it easily as well.

The performance of this unit is pretty decent too, as its quad-core Intel process and 160GB memory of DDR does the performance you need for multi-tasking.

What I like most about this is its huge chassis, which makes it comfortably cool to use. Also, its 18.4 in screen provides high-definition resolution which results to very vivid images. Brightness, color and contrast are pretty impressive on its wide screen, making this model ideal for home entertainment.

However, at such expensive price, I expect more from this model of Acer. Though its performance is good enough, there are some details that pull this model from the ranking, such as the fan that constantly works at the left-hand side of the unit can be annoying and distracting, as it does run even when the unit is sitting idle.

All in all, Acer Aspire Ethos 8943G is good enough for most type of use, but it’s expensive price can offer much better performance. There are some units out there that give almost the same quality for a more affordable price.
